Question:

Hi I have an Acer Travel mate and it makes a loud continuous beep sound when I try to turn it on. It only stops when i turn it off using the power button. I have to try this several times before i can get it to start up normally. What is happening here and what should i do?

Problem is either with your memory or the video card. Either way it is harware related. If you have no warranty, then swap out the RAM and see if this helps, if not, may need to buy a new video card which for a laptop may even mean a new motherboard or the whole laptop.

It sounds like you’ve got a hardware problem, unfortunately. We did some research and found that a continuous been coming from an Acer notebook could be a sign of defective / marginal RAM, a bad RAM slot, or problem motherboard. If the machine is still in warranty, it would be best to have it inspected by a service technician. If not, RAM is so cheap at the moment that you could try replacing one or both of the SO-DIMMs in your machine to see if the problem goes away. If not, replacing the motherboard could be cost prohibitive. Good luck.

Basically what is going on is that you have a piece of internal hardware that seams to be either damaged or unseated from it’s socket (something like RAM). If you want to go the official route, have the manufacturer take a look at it if it is still under warranty. If not, you can take it in to Geek Squad or Firedog. If you are adventurous, you could open up the laptop yourself and see if there is anything that is obviously not connected securely.
